![]() The layout was a bit of a mixed bag for me. Otherwise the course looked and played great. ![]() The biggest fault was just in the signs of heavy use with lots of divots in the fairways and old ball marks on the greens. On the day I played the course conditions were a bit soggy from recent rain but the course seemed to drain relatively well, though a couple bunkers had some standing water. TCI offers a challenging and somewhat dynamic layout in very good condition with excellent facilities and staff, making it a top public golf destination in central Iowa. Overall, I would play this course again and if I lived in the Des Moines area, I would definitely add it to my normal play rotation. This was one area where I was disappointed because the warm-up putting green ran much faster than the actual greens which caused me to misread the putts for the first few holes. They rolled true and reasonably fast however for a course of this caliber I expected them to be much faster than they played. There are many bunkers and they were definitely placed to penalize a poor shot, but the fairways were reasonably open and the greens were awesome! It did not help that it was a decently windy day so, therefore, you had to take the wind into effect when figuring out your target lines. The course is truly an Arnie design because it required some serious target golf. During the round we ended up playing through 4 other groups so the only downfall to the day was the fact it took 5+ hours to finish my round, making me a little late for my post-golf events. no issues there but the pace of play was slow due to the fact the course stacks its tee times. Therefore if you do not have a range finder with a slope calculation then you really have a hard time knowing how far you are actually hitting your clubs for the day.ĭue to taking advantage of a "hot deals" tee time, I was paired with a 2-some. The other thing that was interesting is that the driving range is elevated so you hit down to the target areas. Given the short time that I had to warm up, there were plenty of balls but if I would have been able to do my normal warm-up, 1 hour prior to tee time, I would have not had enough balls to warm up. ![]() A bonus was getting range balls included in the price however, the stock of balls was a little lacking. A quick review of Golfnow allowed me to take advantage of a lower cost tee time. It does look tasty though: a wide selection of sweets and savouries, sour dough bread from slow-food baker Peter Kapp, one of Germany’s best, and organic coffee, freshly roasted here in Heidelberg. This was my first time playing this course as I was visiting the Des Moines area for a quick trip. At €18.50 (there’s a €2 discount if you make a reservation the day before), I forego breakfast, because frankly, it’s a bit much to fork over for coffee and a croissant, which is about all I can stomach in the early hours. Next to the reception is the bar and high-end restaurant. Qube hotel review: Reception, restaurant and roof terraceĮntering the reception, I’m met with purple and pink lights. If you’re not coming by car, I concede you have to be a bit of a geek to be fascinated. I’m glad I don’t have to park like this frequently, as it’s a bit challenging. An ingenious solution with parking at a premium. A turn of a key, and the entire level of 3 cars underneath is sunk beneath the floor. Of course, after I’m told how it works, it’s glaringly obvious. It’s the first time I’m seeing this, and I scratch my head wondering how the top car can come down without crashing on top of the ones underneath. It’s a small double-rack garage, with room for 12 cars x 2, one level on top of another, just tall enough for my rental car. Only here, that doesn’t just mean a parking garage. Parking is limited, so Qube Hotel has a so-called tief-garage, a ‘deep garage’. Upon arriving, the first order of business is parking. Natural plaster rather than wallpaper, wooden- and stone floors rather than carpets, the list goes on… Here’s the lowdown: Qube hotel review: Parking Walls are painted with a special ecofriendly (and allergy-friendly) paint. This award-winning boutique hotel is privately owned and has a particular focus on the environment as well as allergy sufferers. On a recent visit in Heidelberg, I stayed at the cool, contemporary Qube Hotel. ![]()
